Third Section – In the third section, you are required to enter the details of your family members who are already enrolled in the electoral constituency. You will have to mention the name of the person, their relationship with you, their election photo ID number, also their constituency and serial number as it appears in the electoral rolls of the constituency. And upload the supporting documents such as your photograph, address proof, and identity proof.

Fourth Section – Fourth section of Form 6 is a declaration form. The declaration that confirms your citizenship who resides at the address you have provided. Which also works as a proof that you haven’t applied for a voter’s ID card in any other constituency.

The Voter ID Card or Electoral Photo ID Card (EPIC) is an identification card issued by the Election Commission to all the citizens of India above the age of 18 years in order to vote and practice their democratic rights. Voter ID Verification Process in India

In order to verify voter ID, follow the below mentioned procedure:

  • At first you need to log in to the official website of Election Commission of India (ECI) i.e. eci.nic.in. And in this website you will get all the required details that you need to know about online voter ID application process. Also look for the documents that you are required to submit during the process.
  • In case you are applying for the Voter ID for the first time, you will have to fill in the details on Form – 6 and submit the duly filled form along with required documents. And applicants are required to submit the scanned copy of the documents and passport size images of the applicant must be attached wherever needed.
  • Send the hard copy of your official documents to your nearest electoral office. It is suggestive to send the documents in person and avoid sending them by courier or post.
  • Once you have submitted the form along with the required documents, make sure that they are error free and information is correct. After that an electoral officer may pay you a visit in order to verify your address by talking to your neighbours and other members of the society / neighbourhood.

Application Number For Voter Card Verification

Whichever ways you apply for a voter ID card, either online or offline, you should keep a track of your application number so that you can keep a check at any point the status of your application. ECI (Election Commission of India) will assign you an application number at the time you register for a voter’s ID. This number is usually a set of 11 digits.

How to Verify Election Voter ID Card

Correction in Voter ID

A correction is required if there is some misspelling of the name or error in any other information in the details of elector or voter on the electoral roll. To rectify the error, concerned person should fill Form 8 and then submit it either online or offline. Detailed information about Form 8 is given below.

This form is meant for people whose name is already on the electoral roll and they are seeking corrections to any particulars printed on the roll.

Documents required to fill up this form

  1. Recent passport size photograph (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm) and photo should be in JPG format and maximum size of the image should be 100 KB only.
  2. Age Proof document should be in jpg Format and maximum size of the image should be 100 KB only.
  3. Address proof document should be in jpg format and maximum size of the image should be 100 KB only.

Online Method to make Corrections in Voter Id Card

  1. Visit National Voters Service Portal www.nvsp.in
  2. Click on “Correction of entries in electoral roll
  3. Click on “Form 8” on the page
  4. This will direct you to the actual page wherein you can request for voter card correction.
  5. Enter the following details in the form.
  • Your State and Parliamentary Constitution / Assembly
  • Name, Gender, Age, Part number of electoral roll and Serial number
  • Provide details of the family including the name of father / mother / husband
  • Enter your complete address
  • Provide Voter ID Card details
  1. Once this information is provided, upload documents which support them like latest photograph, valid ID proof, and address proof
  2. Now, choose the details which need to be corrected/changed.
  3. Enter the place you are making a request from (city).
  4. Mention the date on which this request to correct the name in your voter ID is being made.
  5. Provide your contact information (mobile number, email ID).
  6. Verify the information provided by you and click the “Submit” tab.

Election Commission of India (ECI) will verify the changes made and incorporate it in case of accurate information.

If verified successfully you will receive a notification and you can collect the voter ID card from the nearest electoral office.

Offline Method to make Corrections in Voter Id Card

  • Get a Form 8 from Electoral Registration Officer and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of the constituency or download it from National Voters Service Portal.
  • Fill “Form 8” properly and attach relevant documents
  • Submit the form in person at the concerned Electoral Registration Officer / Assistant Electoral Registration Officer. One can send the form by post addressed to him.

Overseas NRI Voters

The Election Commission of India was founded in the year 25th Jan 1950 which was later celebrated as the National Voters Day. The election commission of India is responsible for the administrative process in India. The voters in India have classified into different types out of which one is the Overseas NRI Voter.

Overseas (NRI) Elector

An Overseas NRI elector is a citizen of India who has not acquired any citizenship of any other country and is otherwise eligible to be registered as a voter and who is absent from his place of ordinary residence in India owing to his employment, education or otherwise is eligible to be registered.

According to the provisions of Section 20A of the Representations of the People’s Act of 1950 an NRI who has settled in a foreign land can become an official electoral roll in India.

Eligibility of An Overseas Voter

Any Indian Citizen can be tagged as an Overseas NRI Voter if he/she has attained the age of 18 years on the qualifying date, i.e first date of the month January of the year of revision of the electoral roll and should not be disqualified to be enrolled as an elector.

How To Register For An Overseas Elector

  • Below is the process explaining how to register yourself as an Overseas NRI elector.
  • Visit the official site of the Election Commission of India:www.eci.nic.in
  • Now find out the name of your constituency and the part of the area i.e the district or the state where you live in (residence).
  • Fill in the Enrollment Form. Fill the Form 6A from the website www.nvsp.in
  • You can also receive the Form 6A from the EROs/AEROs Office/Designated Locations/ Authorized Centers if you are applying it offline.
  • Now fill in the form 6A in 2 copies and send it to the Electoral Registration Officer.
  • These forms are available in free of cost in the Indian Missions.

Documents Required

The documents that are required for the registration of Overseas Elector are as follows

  • One recent passport size photograph affixed in Form 6A.
  • The self-attested photocopies of the required pages of the Passport containing the photograph, address of Indian residence and all the other details.
  • The page of the Passport containing the valid Visa endorsement.
  • The documents that are mentioned above must be duly self-attested.
  • Submission Of The Form-  in Person/Post:
  • You can submit the following form either by the Post Service or you can fill in the form in Person with the Electoral Registration Officer/ Assistant R.O. After the submission process, the form goes for the Verification Process.

The Verification Process

  • The Booth officers will visit your residence address that you have mentioned while filling up the form. The booth officers will check a few documents of the applicant in this process.
  • If in case there is no relative or is not willing to give any declaration for the verification then these documents are sent to the concerned Indian Mission.
  • The decision of the Electoral Registration Officer will be sent to the mentioned address or mobile number that is mentioned in the Form 6A. This is sent in the form of an SMS or by post. The electoral rolls are also available on the website of Chief Electoral Officer.
  • The names of the Overseas Electors are mentioned at separate column making it easier to spot. This list is usually located at the last section of the roll of each polling station area.
  • Form 8 is used to making the correction in the Electoral Roll.

How To Cast Your Vote?

  • The Overseas Elector are not issued with the Elector Photo Identity Card (EPIC). The person is allowed to cast his/her vote at the polling station by showing off his/her Passport.
  • No use of mobile phones or tablets or any other gadgets in the Polling Booth.
  • Firstly the polling official will check your name in the Voter List and then check your Passport.
  • Then the polling official will put the ink on your finger and proceed to the Polling Booth to cast a vote for your desired candidate.
  • Now record the vote by pressing the button beside the symbol of the candidate of your choice on the Electronic Voting Machine.
  • After you are done with the voting you can hear a beep sound.
  • You can also press NOTA which means None of the Above. If you do not like any candidate. Feel free to press that button. It is present in the last section of the Electronic Voting Machine.

Note:

  • No person should be enrolled more than once. If you are enrolling as an Overseas NRI Elector then you need to submit a declaration mentioning that you are not enrolled as a General Elector before.
  • If in case you are registered as a General Voter, you need to surrender your EPIC when you submit Form 6A for registration as an Overseas Voter.
  • When you return back to India then you can register yourself as a General Voter at your original place of residence and get the enrollment as Overseas Elector deleted.
