Types of Ration Cards In Karnataka
Primary cards are given to the families living in the rural and slum areas. These cards come in Green color whereas, for the BPL (Below Poverty Line) families Yellow cards are issued. The Ration Cards in Karnataka is classified into three types based on their economic condition.

The application fee for issuing a new card is Rs 5/-. For BPL Cards the charges are Rs 10 and for APL Cards the charges are Rs 45/- by the concerned department.
If you are applying for a Duplicate Card, then the cardholder has to submit an application form meant for the Lost Ration Card along with an affidavit mentioning details related to it. Types of Driving License in RTO Karnataka
In Karnataka, the license aspirants have to obtain the Learner’s License first and then obtain a Permanent Driving License in six months. You can get a slot for Permanent Driving License only after a month of getting the Learner’s License.
There are three types of Driving License granted by the Karnataka Government
- Driving License for the Motorcycles without Gear: This type of License is given to the candidates for driving motorcycles and two-wheelers without gears like scooters and mopeds. To apply for this license the candidates has to attain an age of 16 or above.
- Driving License for Light Weight Motorcycles: This license is valid for the vehicles such as the bikes and cars. To apply for this license the applicant has to attain an age of 18 or above.
- Driving License for Transport Vehicles: This license is for the transport vehicles such as the cabs, private service vehicles, trucks, and Lorries etc. The required age for applying this license is 20 or above.
Documents Required for the Driving License in RTO Karnataka
To obtain the driving license the candidates must submit the following documents to the concerned Regional Transport Office (RTO).
- Four passport size photos of the applicant.
- Medical Certificate in Form 1A and 1 given by any licensed Government doctor, if applicable.
- Valid documents of the vehicle if you own a vehicle.
- A dully filled licensed application which can be downloaded from the Karnataka Transport Department.

How to Apply for a Driving License in RTO Karnataka
To apply for a Driving License in Karnataka, follow the below steps
- Visit the nearest RTO Office and grab the application form from there.
- Apply via a motor driving school or download one directly from www.rto.kar.nic.in
- Then document verification takes place, where you need to show that following documents like Passport sized photographs, ID Proof, residence address proof etc.
- After the documentation, a slot will be given for the preliminary test.
- The test is meant for testing the driving the skills and how you are aware of the road rules and safety and the traffic laws.
- Once you pass the preliminary test, you will be given a Learner’s License.
- After the preliminary test and achieving the Learner’s License, the rest of the procedure is quite simple.
- The validity of the Learner’s License is only for Six Months and you can apply for a Permanent Driving License only after a month.

The Driving License is sent to the applicant in less than 30 days after passing the test. If in case you haven’t received it in time then you can visit the nearest RTO Office and check the status. The license can get canceled if you have unpaid challans or ignored the summons.
How to Make Corrections in Driving License Online
If an applicant who is having a driving license and wishes to make any sort of corrections like the misspell name, address etc. printed on a card then they need to forward an application along with the relevant documents with correct information.

How to change the Address for Driving License Online in RTO Karnataka
If the applicant wants to change the address that is printed on the card, then they need to forward a written application along with certain proofs, for the new residence:
- Passport
- Any latest utility bill
- LIC Policy
- Ration Card
- Caste Certificate (ST/SC, Backward class or Minorities etc.)
- Income Certificate issued by the Tahasildar.
- Self-swearing affidavit of the applicant in front of an executive Magistrate or a First Class Judicial Magistrate or a Notary Public with correct details.

- The change of address can be applied and a new driving license is given to the applicant on the same day in the RTA Office.
- If applied in a different RTO, the new driving license with new address will be sent in one month after due verification.
Test Procedure for Driving License in RTO Karnataka
After obtaining the Learner’s License, you can apply for the practical driving test after one month. You can also choose a slot according to your comfort of giving the test. On the day, the inspector will scrutinize the documents before you go for a test. The transport department does not provide any vehicles, you have to get your own vehicle. If you are trained in a motor vehicle driving school then that will be taken care by the school.
Four Wheeler Test: Firstly, the applicant has to give a Ground Test, which is basically driving along the marked “H” Without touching the poles planted on the edges. This is to test the control ability, reverse, shift gears, and focus and so on. Upon flunking this, you will be given another chance or date to retake the test again. Once you clear the ground test, you will be cleared for the road test as well. This will be the final stage. Here the examiner will accompany you and will check your driving skills, adaptation of the vehicle and how well you are with the traffic rules and regulations.
Two-Wheeler and Three-Wheeler Test: In this case also, the ground test comes first. You will have to ride a bike or an auto-rickshaw in a bordered “Figure of Eight” without touching the poles that are planted at the different corners. This shows how comfortable you are with the vehicle, with the shifting of the gears and bending corners and so on. After clearing this, you will be redirected to the road test, where you have to ride for a certain distance on the road complying with the rules and the regulations.
The inspector of the Motor Vehicles will take the test of your capability to drive in accordance with the guidelines listed under the Rule 15 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rule (1989). If he is satisfied with your driving skills, then he will pass the recommendations to the RTO Office and you will soon receive your driving License. If the applicant is failed to clear the test then he/she can appear the test after 7 days by paying a small fee of Rs 50.
Renewal of the Driving License in RTO Karnataka
The Driving License is issued with a validity of 20 years up to the age of 20 years. And if you cross the age of 50, then you have to renew your License after every 3-5 years in Karnataka. You can request for a renewal at least 20 years before it is expired or within a month after expiry.
First, you need to collect a renewal form from the RTO, where you have issued your License earlier. Submit the filled form CMV 9 along with the medical certificate I form CMV 1/1A along with three passport sized photographs and Original DL.
A renewal fee of Rs 300 is paid for the new card and you will receive the card the same day itself.
How to Apply for a Duplicate Driving License in RTO Karnataka
If in case you’re driving license is lost or damaged, you need to apply for a Duplicate Driving License. You will have to submit an LLD Form duly filled to the nearest RTO Office. The steps mentioned below will guide you how to obtain a Duplicate Driving License in Karnataka:
- The applicant has to fill the LLD KMV-1 Form correctly and submit it to the Same RTO which has approved or renewed the License.
- Along with the LLD Form, you have to give at least three copies of the Passport size photos and the fee mentioned in the KMV Guidebook.
- If your application for the Duplicate Driving License is made in Form 7, then you have to pay a small fee of Rs 40.
- You will also have to present a duplicate copy of your lost license, otherwise, it will be difficult for the concerned official to extract your details. Doing this will speed up the process and make it easier.
How to Get International Driving License in RTO Karnataka
If you are planning to apply for an International Driving License, then follow the below guidelines:
- Collect the Form CMV 4-A from the nearest RTO Office or download it from the website.
- A charge of Rs 500 is charged for the International Driving Permit. Submit the money to the RTO cashier. You can also make the payment online.
- Show your Original Valid Driving License, Visa, Passport and Air Ticket and submit the copies in the Office.
- A Medical Certificate and a fitness certificate in form CMV1 and CMV1A are given with a dully filled application along with three latest passports sized photographs.
- The applicant must be an Indian Citizen and has to be present in the office.
- If the driving license is given within 90 days, then the applicant has to go for a re-test.
- The address that is given in the License must be under the RTO Dominion.
- The International Driving Permit has a validity of 12 months or until the driving license expires, whichever happens, earlier.
