How to Link Aadhaar With Indian Bank

Aadhaar card is a 12-digit unique number provided by the Unique Identification Authority of India. The UIDAI as a statutory formed under the Aadhaar act of 2016.It was formed with the sole authority to issue unique identification numbers to every Indian citizen. The agency works under the authority of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

In India majority of the population who are living below the poverty line do not have any identity which is well authenticated or which is backed by the government. This factor does not allow them to participate and become a part of the economy. The government spends millions every year for their upliftmnet to no avail. This is because of the presence of “ghost workers” and corrupt government officials.” Ghost workers” are those people who avail the benefits of the government schemes with fake identities. The main motive of UIDAI backed by the government is to ensure that every Indian citizen is provided with an identity so that the benefits of development trickle down even to the poorer section of the society.

The Government’s Take on Aadhaar

This year the government has made Aadhaar mandatory to avail the benefits of any government schemes. The finance minister Arun Jaitley, on 30 August stated that one billion banks are all set link one billion Aadhaar cards.

According to the Finance minister this will ensure financial inclusion and no one will be kept out of the national mainstream. The Aadhaar schemes will ensure a common financial, economic and digital space which is no less than a social revolution. The finance minister also pointed the second economic survey according to which the number of women account holders have increased from 28% in 2014 to 40% in 2017.This shows the power of the Aadhaar scheme that spreads across the country irrespective of gender, caste, class and religion.

Further, the government also stated that now all the payments of different government schemes like MNREGA, scholarship, pension scheme etc. will be directly credited to the beneficiary’s account. This in turn will prevent the unnecessary intervention by middlemen.

Indian Bank

The Indian Bank with its headquarters in Chennai was established in 1907.At present it has 2594 branches all over the country and employs a workforce of around 20661 employees. The legacy of the Indian bank dates back to the Swadeshi movement. It was in the year of 1906 that Chennai saw the worst financial crisis. The crisis led to the lock down of three major British commercial institutions. This gave an opportunity to the Indian bankers to establish an indigenous Indian bank. Thus, a bank with an Indian base was established and was named the Indian bank. The bank was founded by Krishnaswamy Iyer in partnership with Mr. Ramasamy Chettiar.

How to Link Aadhaar With Indian Bank Account

The Indian bank does not provide the facility to link Aadhaar with bank account via the online portal or via SMS. In order to link the Aadhaar with the bank account a person will have to physically go to a bank branch. The following steps be taken while linking Aadhaar with bank account using the offline method:

  1. Visit the nearest Indian Bank branch
  2. Fill the form for Aadhaar-account link available at all the Indian bank branches
  3. Complete the form with correct details and then submit to the bank official
  4. The bank might ask for the documents for verification. Once the verification is completed the documents will be handed back to the account holder
  5. Once the verification is completed the account will be linked with Aadhaar manually by the bank officers.
  6. After the linking process is done a confirmation mail or SMS will be sent to the account holder.
