Vadodara City

Vadodara formerly known as the Baroda district of Gujrat is the third largest city in Gujrat. The city is famous for its petrochemical, engineering, chemical, pharmaceutical, plastic, IT and foreign exchange services and other products.

Before getting its official name, the city of Vadodara was called “Chandanavati” named after its ruler Raja Chandan. During the British rule, the city was called Brodera, from which it derived its former name Baroda. However, in 1974 the name Baroda was changed into Vadodara.

Prior to Indian Navy, Vadodara had its own Navy which is more than 180 years old

The history of Vadodara goes way back to 812 AD.

The first planned underground drainage system in modern India was established in Baroda around 115 years ago

Before getting its name Vadodara was also called by numerous other names like “Chandanvati”, ”Ankottaka”, ”Vatpatrak”, ”Viravati” etc.

The Baroda township in Michigan in US is named after the Indian city of Baroda

Baroda is also famous for its 24.4 carat moon shaped diamond called the “moon of Baroda”
