Recently Union Government has declared that they have deactivated 81 lakhs Aadhaar cards because of one reason or another. You can read about it here.
Due to which people are unable to link their Aadhaar with PAN to file income tax returns, which has been mandated by the Government. The last date of linking Aadhaar and PAN card is declared to be Aug 31st, 2017. However, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) department has assured that the citizens can get their Aadhaar Cards reactivated at their nearest updation center.
The reason explained by the UIDAI officials is that
The Clean Up refers to wiping of the cards which are duplicates or contains fallacious information.
The Centre has accepted the deactivation of the cards over the last few months. They have also intimated district representatives to spread the awareness about the re-activation process, which requires only the biometric data.
In a scenario where the citizens still spending time on long queues in order to enrol in Aadhaar System, deactivation became a serious issue. And the question is how a person’s Aadhaar can get deactivated without any prior notice? Should the Government extend the deadline of Aadhaar-PAN Linkage? Please let us know your views here.
