Aadhaar – Mobile linkage can be done through an OTP from Dec 1

Recently, Government have mandated linking 12 digits Unique Identification Card with mobile phone numbers in order to weed out fake mobile subscribers and to further strengthen the authenticity of Aadhaar as an important document for e – KYC (Know Your Customer).

UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has stated that “No need to give fingerprints to local SIM card retailer for your mobile phone verification”, as from December 1, subscribers can link their mobile numbers with their Aadhaar card through OTP which they will receive on their registered mobile number.

This process is considered to be safe and convenient as people can complete linkage procedure from the comfort of their homes, says one of the official of UIDAI.

These new methods will help subscribers to get their mobile number linked to Aadhaar without visiting the stores of the telcos (telecom companies),
the Department of Telecom (DoT) said in a press release dated October 25.

OTP stand for One Time Password which UIDAI has planned to use for the authentication purpose from December 1st. OTP is a limited time period process, which will be sent to the registered mobile phone number or email ID.

The Aadhaar number holder shall provide this OTP along with his Aadhaar number during authentication and the same shall be matched with the OTP generated by the Authority

In order to ease up the chaos, DoT (Department of Telecom) have introduced three ways to link UID with mobile connection; the first option is an app based method, second is the OTP based method, and the third method is an IVRS (Interactive Voice Option) facility.

A lot of chaos took place after Aadhaar was mandated to be linked with your mobile phone numbers, as the linkage requires biometric details for KYC (Know your Customer) verifications. This complaint has been coming especially from the senior citizens as their finger prints are not matching with their previous fingerprints. Introduction of OTP system would hopefully resolve this problem and speed up the linking process as well.

But until the new method comes into affect you can check out the current procedure to link Aadhaar with Mobile Number Here.
