By amending the Money Laundering Act, the Government of India has made it mandatory for every individual to link their Aadhaar card with their bank account number. Along with this the amendment has also made it mandatory for every citizen to link both their PAN as well Aadhaar card with their HDFC Bank account if any transaction above Rs 50000 is to be made.
The government has set December 31, 2017 as the last date for linking Aadhaar and Pan card with the bank account. While re-verifying of the information provided by an individual with help of Aadhaar card is important but at the same time the Reserve Bank of India in its website has also specifies that no one document can become mandatory to open a bank account.
The government of India has identified 6 documents which can used as a valid id proof for opening a bank account, they are passport, driving license, voter’s id card, PAN card, Aadhaar card and NREGA job cards.

How to Link Aadhaar With HDFC Bank Account

Via Net banking
Online banking is one the easiest ways of linking Aadhaar with the bank account. It saves both the time and money of an individual that he or she might have to spend while visiting the bank. In order to use the online facility a person should have a sound internet facility. The following steps should be taken in order to link the Aadhaar card and the bank account in the online portal:
- Login to the official website for HDFC net banking
- Click on “view and update Aadhaar” in the request option
- Choose the account that needs to be linked and then provide your
- Aadhaar number in the appropriate box and click on “update”
- After this, you will be redirected to a page where the page will display all
- All the information provided by you. Check the information again and click on “submit”
- After successfully applying in the online portal, the Aadhar number will automatically get updated in the bank’s database within 2-3 days.
Via Mobile banking
Mobile banking also requires a person to have internet access. The following points must be kept in mind while linking Aadhaar with the bank account via the mobile banking portal:
- Log in to the HDFC mobile banking portal.
- Go to “accounts” and click on “request”
- After this click on “view or update Aadhaar number”
- Choose the account that needs to be linked and then provide your

- After this, you will be redirected to a page where the page will display all
- All the information provided by you. Check the information again and click on “submit”
- After successfully applying using the mobile banking portal, the Aadhaar number will automatically get updated in the bank’s database within 2-3 days.
By visiting the bank branch
Although it is time consuming process as a person is required to visit the bank physically but if the branch is nearby or in case a person has doubts then he or she can visit the branch and carry the linking process. The following steps must be taken while linking Aadhaar with the bank account in the bank branch:
- You are required to carry the original copy of the Aadhaar card or a copy of the e- Aadhaar card for verification.
- Fill in the application available in the bank branch
- After the successful submission of the request.
- Aadhaar card will automatically get linked with the bank account within 3 to 4 working days.
